A question that comes to mind when thinking about personal style is whether old is the new 'new'. It's obvious that vintage is the in thing right now, and has been for a while, so it could be true that old really is the new 'new'. This idea also appears in location choices such as for weddings or parties, choosing a big old chateaux rather than a modern hotel, or even in interior design, take 'shabby chic' for example! I guess it just depends on your taste...

And so, I thought about this for the shoot I put together this week. I had wanted to take some photos on the backstreets of Al Quoz, which is the industrial and arty area of Dubai. As in most cities, it's usually the grungier districts where all the art centres/galleries set-up home, and you'll find it's the same here, with one of the biggest creative corners on Al Serkhal Avenue, Al Quoz.

This district is one of the few areas in Dubai that you find a bit of grit and grunge. Sometimes abandoned cars, sometimes abadoned trucks, and sometimes.... abandoned boats! Don't ask me why, but despite their randomness, they make for totally awesome set props - although, I'm not sure how easy they'd be to transport inside a studio - damn!!! ;)

Anyway so the location correlated to the old vs new theme, with the old battered boats and trucks dotted on the backdrop of modern, sparkling new, Dubai. My outfit on the other hand, pulls a little bit at 'old vs young.' I found this sweet dungaree skirt in New Look a while back and paired it with my white converse to keep things fresh, while for my accessories I chose a vintage watch and satchel.

The sun was just setting at the time so it gave the pictures a duller, more grey feel which I loved. And the texture of the old truck and abandoned boat were just perfect.
Oh, and at the bottom you'll find some outtakes of how awkward it is sometimes being infront of the camera..lol, got to have a laugh!
